  • 1.  Suggestions for virtual team experimental task

    Posted 03-23-2011 23:00

    Colleagues –

I'm looking for an experimental activity that meets the following criteria:

    ·         Requires collaborative decision making

    ·         Suitable for virtual teams (i.e., no physical equipment or face-to-face activity required)

    ·         Allows for objective scoring of team performance

    ·         Does not feature uneven distribution of information or preset roles (all participants should be on an "equal" footing with one another)

    ·         Takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Hi Steve,

May I suggest the Winter Survival Exercise in Johnson and Johnson's 2009 groups textbook? Participants have to rank a list of items according to their importance for survival and there is an expert solution to the task. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

    Best regards,
    Amanda Ferguson

For some reason, this activity comes easily to my mind.   ; )

Do it for a short enough quiz and it fulfills all your objectives and more.
