  • 1.  Web survey software - save & return

    Posted 04-22-2010 09:30
    Dear colleagues

I am looking for a web survey software (like, say, survey monkey) that
    fulfills the following criteria:

    1. the possibility for participants to save their answers so far and return
to exactly where they have left off at a later point in time (I understand
surveygizmo does that, any experiences with that? Any alternatives?)
    2. secure links/server

Any advice would me much appreciated

    Many thanks

    Karoline,

I have recently used Survey Methods and was very pleased with it. Although the basic package is free, I used the professional package as it allowed my coauthor access to it as well, so that both of us could work on designing the survey.

    Hi Karoline,

I believe Qualtrics may meet your criteria. I have used both Survey Monkey and Qualtrics. Qualtrics is more expensive but offers more features along the lines of those you outlined.

    Hello:

I highly recommend Qualtrics (http://www.qualtrics.com/).  They meet all of these requirements (depending on how your configure the survey in Qualtrics) and provide excellent support.  Many individuals do not realize that Qualtrics has a special program available to university researcher to use their extensive survey application and network.

One of the challenges I have faced is that "initial" large population of survey participants trying to access the survey get rejected. Hundreds of individual trying to participate at the same time can cause some survey applications and networks to clog up.  Qualtrics can support hundreds of concurrent hits as the survey is released.

    Good luck,

    Hi Karoline,

I've used SurveyGizmo for my dissertation and can't recommend it highly
enough. Their save and return feature is full of customizable options,
including the ability to design an automated email message sent to
participants reminding them to complete their partial surveys.

The software seems to have mastered the balance between an intuitive and
feature-rich default interface and seemingly endless extensibility if you
want to tweak the UI using javascript and css (this can make it a handy tool
for not just surveys but also computer-based lab experiments). You also can
issue a secure link for your survey (using SG's server) or host the survey
on your own secure server. Another plus is that doctoral students can get
the full "enterprise" feature set for free if you submit a request for a
"student version" to their customer service department.

And no, they're not paying me to write this. :) I've just been continually
impressed with what I'm able to do with the software.

    Best,
    Matt
