    Hi, colleagues.

This is Amy Ou from Arizona State Univ., and I need your help in finding an innovation performance measure for managers, that is, the result of individual managers' creative or innovative behaviors.

I've found a couple of measures of employee creativity:

Scott & Bruce. 1994. Determinants of Innovative Behavior - a Path Model of Individual Innovation in the Workplace. Academy of Management Journal, 37(3): 580-607.

Zhou & George. 2001. When job dissatisfaction leads to creativity: Encouraging the expression of voice. Academy of Management Journal, 44(4): 682-696.

Both of them measures employees' creative/innovative behaviors, and they are not about the results. I've seen another one in SMJ, but I am not sure about its validity:

Rodan & Galunic. 2004. More than network structure: How knowledge heterogeneity influences managerial performance and innovativeness. Strategic Management Journal, 25(6): 541-562.

Any suggestions? Thank you very much for your attention!

    Amy

I think you're going to need a different measure for every time you want to measure the results for the simple reason that the results in a given set of circumstances are likely to be different: different people, different circumstances, even different outcomes.

That said, you might look in the operations management literature and begin with instruments that measure the productivity of equipment and manufacturing processes.

    Dear colleagues,

I am struggling with exactly the same issue at the employee level?

How to measure the level of innovation and creativity of output?

For creativity, I recently used some subscales (I could not find the full scale) of the Creative Product Semantic Scale, which is based on three dimensions:

novelty (the product is original, surprising and germinal), resolution (the product is valuable, logical, useful, and understandable), and elaboration and synthesis (the product is organic, elegant, complex, and well-crafted) (Besemer & O'Quin, 1999). I let a number of raters use this scale to evaluate the output of a specific task. I was not totally happy with the scale, because the raters found it very hard to complete the questionnaire.

    Any suggestions?

    Kind regards,

    Rein

    Hi Amy,

I am curious to know how you think of Amabile's (1993) consensual
assessment technique. How does it address or not address your needs?

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
