    Dear Colleagues,

I am searching for the theories and empirical studies that focus on how leaders' attitudes and behaviors may affect followers' under the stressful, uncertain or unusual circumstances. I greatly appreciate your suggestions and will summarize and share the responses.

    Sincerely,

Dear Dong Liu and any other OB list member asking for certain data,

Please post your own e-mail so that people can respond to you, and then later you can collate all the responses and post to the list. Otherwise, the system of all the list members is bombarded with many responses that may not be of interest to all.

As for your specific request, here is one non-conventional study:

Baruch, Y. & Jenkins, S. (2007). Swearing at work and permissive leadership culture: When anti-social becomes social and incivility is acceptable. Leadership and Organization Development Journal, 28(6), 492-507.

    Yours,

    Yehuda

    Hi Liu Dong,

You may take a look at my JAP 2008 paper (together with Bob Liden) where we found that the relationship between leaders' trust and coworker trust for a particular team member is stronger when team performance is bad. Drawing on social information perspective, we theorize that bad team performance indicate the need to change, more uncertainty and probably stress, as you have mentioned, leaders' attitudes play a more important role.

    Hope this helps,

    Dora

    Dear Colleagues,

I received two responses to my question, which lead to two very intersting articles:

Baruch, Y. & Jenkins, S. (2007). Swearing at work and permissive leadership culture: When anti-social becomes social and incivility is acceptable. Leadership and Organization Development Journal, 28(6), 492-507.

    Lau, D. C. & Liden, R., 2008. Antecedents of co-worker trust: Leaders' blessings. Journal of Applied Psychology, 93(5), 1130-1138.

Many thanks for your attention and help!
