Dear OB Division Members,
We are seeking presenters for a PDW submission on the use of technology in the writing process.
What we're planning to do:
Our PDW will focus on sharing techniques for managing research thoughts in the writing process. We will have a panel of presenters demonstrate their own adaptation of various tools (e.g. note taking programs, citation managers, concept mapping technologies, task management resources, etc.) in order to manage their research-related ideas. We hope that it will also provide a chance to reflect on your own processes and to make connections by sharing your unique adaptation with colleagues.
The session will include a combination of small-table discussions with all session attendees, presentations by presenters, and panel Q&A.
Who we're looking for:
4-5 organizational researchers who have experience in using technological tools to effectively manage their research-related thinking
Presenters do not need to be experts on the tools themselves (do not need to have extensive knowledge around all of the features and abilities of a product)
Presenters may be overlapping in the tools that they are demonstrating, but adaptation of the tools should differ
What we expect:
Presenters should be comfortable showing examples of their own adaptation and process in using the tools to record and keep track of their work (e.g., their categorization system in OneNote)
Presentations will involve technologies, but will be useful and understandable to even those who are not familiar with the technologie
Presenters may focus on their adaptation of one specific tool (e.g., OneNote for note-taking), but we'd also like to see the research process on a more holistic level- the suite of tools used for managing one's research and writing process, and how one navigates between these
Presenters are NOT expected to discuss their use of data analysis software
If you are interested in presenting, please submit a description of your potential contribution, focusing on your system of organizing your research and using technology to enhance writing processes.
If you would like more detail about our aims for the session, please see the attached document, or contact us with any specific questions.
