I've been asked to teach an undergraduate Organizational Behavior class in Italy this summer (to American students) that is supposed to have an international flavor, one with an emphasis on Italian business culture.  I teach  UG OB, and of course discuss numerous cultural aspects, but not one that has its primary emphasis on the difference between US and European business culture. Has any one taught such a course (doesn't have to be Italian) and, if so, can you share your syllabus or any recommendations on books/readings/exercises?

Thanks in advance for your help; I will summarize and share the responses.

Luthans OB textbook has a great deal of excellent international OB perspectives.
Also, his text on international management is also a great resource. It used to be authored with the late Dick Hodgetts--he may still be a co-author because of his initial participation in the original versions of the text.

    Jane,

Nancy Adler has a text titled International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior.  I have used it for several years and find it very readable for undergraduates and good coverage of most major topics. It includes good coverage of Hofstede, but does not include the GLOBE study.

    Hi Jane and colleagues,

I second the Luthans & Doh book, which I used for my CCM course with both UG students and pre-experienced Masters (MSc). Bear in mind, though, that it is an International Management text, which has good sections on CCM (very close to Intl. OB) but also other, more strategy-related chapters. I also support the recommendation of Adler's book, which I used. It specifically deals with Intl. OB and has a recent addition.

Another, less known (at least in N. America) book is 'Understanding cross-cultural management' by M-J Browaeys and R. Price (Prentice Hall), which I am using this year for the first time. It differs from the two texts above in that it is written by two European scholars and has more emphasis on comparing management and work practices in Europe to US/Canada and Asia as well as within Europe. Like Luthans & Doh's book, it has several mini-cases and exercises that would be useful with UGs. It covers well all major cultural frameworks except Schwartz's.

Lastly, David Thomas' 2nd edition of his CCM book is also an option; it is more concise than the three texts above, has more managerial focus in some parts but does not include cases or exercises. I have been using it with Masters level courses.

    Warm wishes,

    Jacob
