Hello,
My colleagues and I are organizing a symposium for the Academy of
Management conference on managerial effectiveness and
interpersonal/social skills, and would like to add one or two more
papers to the symposium. Below is information about the symposium, the
contributors and the individual papers. If you have a paper that would
fit the theme of the symposium and would like to participate, please
let me know.
Best,
Shaun

Abstract
There is a growing awareness by managers, educators and researchers
that interpersonal skills, or so-called soft skills, are a critical
resource for coordinating and motivating people in organizational
settings. This symposium explores different dimensions of
interpersonal skills as a key antecedent of managerial effectiveness.
The first paper uses assessment center activities to show social
expressiveness and role playing skills predict interview effectiveness
but not task performance. The second paper uses a negotiation exercise
to demonstrate cultural intelligence as an interpersonal competency,
predicts outcomes in a cross-cultural negotiation exercise. The final
paper addresses the need for a more comprehensive taxonomy of
interpersonal skills by proposing a interpersonal skills as a
hierarchical, multidimensional construct that includes communication,
social, and motivational dimensions.
