    Leader in Residence, Institute for Leadership
    United States Coast Guard Academy
     
    The United States Coast Guard Academy invites applications for a two-year appointment as Leader in Residence at the Institute for Leadership (IFL) on board the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.  The Leader in Residence will be expected to conduct high quality cutting edge research in leadership and leader development, leading to publication in nationally and internationally recognized scholar and practitioner journals.  He/she will collaborate with other faculty to increase the level and sophistication of scholarly research at the Academy.  He/she will be a role model and mentor for junior faculty and cadets.
     
    The Leader in Residence will act as an internal consultant to Academy faculty and staff who are responsible for the Academy's highest priority - developing Leaders of Character.  The Leader in Residence will be expected to teach a reduced load of undergraduate leadership courses.
     
    The Leader in Residence will be engaged in leadership events across campus and coordinate IFL funding support for leadership activities at the Academy. The Leader in Residence will manage a part-time Associate Director and a project manager in the execution of the Institute's leadership development efforts.
     
    ABOUT THE INSTITUTE:  The Coast Guard Academy Institute for Leadership, founded in 2005 by a generous gift from Dr. James S. Tyler, supports the Academy's mission of leadership development by delivering innovative and high-impact leadership programs and experiences for the Corps of Cadets, contributing expertise to the Coast Guard Academy's own character-based leadership development model, and raising the awareness of the Academy among its peer institutions and others interested in the study of leadership.  The Institute for Leadership works closely with the Department of Management, Commandant of Cadet's staff, the Leadership Development Center and other groups at the Academy who all share the common challenge of cadet leadership development.  
     
    ABOUT THE SCHOOL:  The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is a highly selective federal military college providing a rigorous undergraduate program.  The Coast Guard Academy provides the professional education and training required to prepare young women and men for careers as commissioned officers in the U.S. Coast Guard.   Offering B.S. degrees in eight academic majors: management, government, operations research, marine/environmental science, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and naval architecture; the Academy is staffed with over 100 full-time civilian and military faculty.  The attractive riverside campus is home to a nationally representative student body of about 1,000 (including about 30% women).  The Academy is located near the shoreline of southeastern Connecticut, midway between New York and Boston.  The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is an Affirmative Action Equal Opportunity Employer.     QUALIFICATIONS:  
    (1)  Ph.D. in a field strongly connected to leadership and leader development such as organization behavior, management, psychology, etc.
    (2)  Be qualified to teach in an AACSB accredited institution.
     
    Additionally, the successful candidate will possess some combination of the following academic and professional credentials appropriate to serve in a leadership role at an academically elite service academy.
    (1)  The capacity to understand and appreciate the unique culture and mission of the U. S. Coast Guard
    (2)  A record of publication in journals of interest to scholars and practitioners of leadership
    (3)  Successful prior experience in leadership roles
    (4)  A record of successful undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and collaboration
