    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Status:                                          Full-time, Regular

    Classification:                              Exempt

    Reporting Supervisor:                 Chief Academic Officer

    Work Area/Department:            College of Business (CoB)

     

    Primary Function:  The position is responsible for providing effective leadership for growth and innovation in educational programs and courses that may cross colleges.  The dean will be responsible for networking and building external relationships that support the market penetration in assigned vertical markets.  The incumbent will be responsible for the attainment of additional accreditation with EQUIS and AACSB and will oversee the management and administration of the College to ensure a high caliber-learning environment.  The dean will appraise and strive to continually improve academic standards, courses and programs; curriculum; supervise the work of assistant and associate deans and will ultimately be responsible for effective operations and budgetary functions for the College.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·         Ensure educational program growth through active networking in local, state and regional business organizations.

    ·         Direct and participate in outreach efforts that bring the resources of the college or university to communities worldwide.

    ·         Provide leadership for the University in assuring its strong competitive position in assigned vertical markets.

    ·         Manage and evaluate curriculum design to ensure it aligns with current business needs and meets established academic standards.

    ·         Support the University-wide assessment effort such that the College assessment initiatives provide outcomes and "return on investment" information to stakeholders on CoB programs and offerings.

    ·         Ensure faculty commitment to the active learning model and continuous program improvement for student success.

    ·         Perform all management functions for the college to include:

    Ø  Develop and implement an annual strategic operational plan for the college.

    Ø  Formulate, measure and achieve annual strategic objectives that articulate the University's mission and vision statements.

    Ø  Promote and support the selection of full-time and adjunct faculty and professional staff following University procedures and ensure the maintenance of high quality standards expected of faculty and staff.

    Ø  Prepare and meet college budgets.

    Ø  Adhere to standards and guidelines in higher education accrediting bodies.

    Ø  Serve as an advocate for leadership/management education in corporate settings.

    ·         Maintain professional growth education and activities as a means of remaining current in the profession.

    ·         Attend various University functions as dictated by University or College business.

     

    Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·       Performs other duties as requested.

     

    Qualifications/Skills:

    ·         Ph.D. or J.D. required.

    • A minimum of ten (10) years experience required in academic management or leadership position with demonstrated management competencies including the knowledge of budgeting, planning, quality improvements, and customer service.
    • A minimum of seven (7) years experience required in faculty development and program assessment with a proven commitment to excellence in teaching and scholastic activities.

    ·         Proven knowledge and evidence of leadership in accreditation, academic planning, program development, implementation and evaluation; and personnel management responsibilities.

    ·         Demonstrated work experience with the adult learner and a history of commitment to active learning.

    • Proven track record as an "academic entrepreneur" and eagerness to compete in local, national, international, and online environments.
    • Possesses an excitement about, and commitment to, non-traditional academic approaches, programs, and courses.

    ·         Previous classroom experience preferred.

    ·         Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish ties with the business community, alumni, faculty, staff, and students in a collegial and multicultural environment.

    • Integrity in all interactions.

    ·         Solid knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, XP, Internet) computer software.

     

    Working Conditions:

    ·         Ability to use PC, calculator and/or other office equipment.

    ·         Frequent requirements to meet critical time objectives, often under extreme urgency and stress.

    ·         Works in a normal office environment with some overnight travel possible.
