  • 1.  AW: [OB-LIST] any scale or measurement to make self report of emotion more reliable

    Dear Weichu,

I wouldn't be too concerned about the reliability issue. I am open to be
    convinced- but
I would guess that reports of individuals about an felt emotion are reliable
    enough.

However, I would not confuse/equal reliability with retest-issues (as these
    are states) or
internal consistency issues - when you have reports of *different* emotions
    (and, thus,
    different entities.

Using the PANAS is fine, but again, using the items as measures of discrete
    emotions could
    be an option.

However, I do not think that reports of others about the emotions of the
    target isn't a valid
    alternative.

    just my 2 pence
    Holger

    Dear Weichu,
With regard to multi-rater options, in the studies I have conducted in this area I almost always measure both self and observer or video-coded ratings and find that they correlate significantly positively. This is a finding I find important both for its demonstration of the positive significant relationship of self-observer ratings of emotion and also for the veracity of self-report ratings when one can't use observer ratings (although my preference is always to use multiple raters if possible). Best, Sigal
