Description of the Workshop:
Despite repeated calls for research on temporal issues, a disconnect still seems to exist between temporal concepts and the majority of management research. Further, much of the scholarly research on temporal issues has been methodological in nature, rather than developing more refined theories about the time, timing, duration, and dynamism of phenomena. To bridge these gaps, we offer a session combining: 1) a tutorial on time-related concepts, theories, and methods, 2) a panel discussion and Q&A session with leading temporal experts, and 3) a working session in which individuals can get advice about temporal issues in their own research. See the attached agenda for more detail on the activities in the workshop.
Participants can expect to leave the session with the following:
· Increased knowledge of temporal issues, including a handout of relevant citations of theoretical and empirical work on time.
· Insight into temporal scholars' perspectives on temporal issues, including challenges, opportunities, and opinions about conducting research and publishing on temporal topics.
· Increased ability to serve as reviewers on papers with temporal issues and longitudinal data.
· Progress on participants' own work by using a temporal lens to consider which temporal topics may be most useful for their existing and anticipated research projects.
Pre-registration is not required. If you have questions, please contact either of the PDW organizers, Abbie Shipp (a.shipp@tcu.edu) or Rob Ployhart (ployhart@moore.sc.edu).
