    Hello:

I am preparing to run a large population survey (~3000) and need to find a survey hosting solution.  My university hosting solution cannot handle the population of this size or the likely initial barrage of concurrent respondents.

Does anyone have any feedback/lessons learned to pass on or any recommendations on a secure hosting survey company on the Internet?

    Best regards,

    Hello,

I use surveymonkey.com. I'm pretty sure they can handle the population you mentioned. In my case, I used it for my dissertation - and only paid $19.99 per month.

    Hi Charles,

I recommend using Qualtrics for any survey hosting. Your University might even have an account with them that you don't know about. Some people might recommend Survey Monkey but I have had lots of problems with them so I would not trust them with my dissertation (or any other data collection for that matter).

    Good luck,
    Cindy

    Hi Silvia,

I used Psychdata www.psychdata.com for my dissertation data collection and had no problems with it.  However, my school has just switched to qualtrics as it's recommended survey solution so although I have not used it myself it might be good to check into as well.

    Good luck,

I'm using Limesurvey, an open source software along with some colleagues. It's not perfect but we get the job done.

    Hi Charles,

I have used most of the major providers out there and my favorite is
QuestionPro (SurveyGizmo is good too). If you need more control over the
process, you can also try LimeSurvey (open source) which offers reasonable
paid hosting as well as a 100% free version you can install on your own
server. Being open source, it's less intuitive than the commercial sites,
but you get all of the advanced features and total customization over layout
and design at grad student friendly rate.

I avoid SurveyMonkey and Zoomerang like the plague.

    I hope this helps!

    Hello,

I have been using Questionpro for the past couple of years without any problems. The cost is reasonable ($15/mo.) and you can host surveys in any language.

    Charles,

Openpsy.org has the predecessor to lime survey already installed + a wide
range of open source statistical packages. Unlimited surveys, items and
    participants. $60 a year,

    Best,

    Dan
