All,
I'm doing some management development research, and I'm trying to figure out how to assess managers' ability to take a broad, cross-functional perspective. This cross-functional perspective might lead managers to consider cross-functional implications when making decisions (rather than staying in a functional silo), or to raise strategic-level issues during meetings, or to more effectively coordinate with other functions. We don't want to simply assess whether managers have gained knowledge about other functional areas, but rather whether they are putting this broader perspective to use in making decisions and interfacing with other functions. Are there existing constructs and scales that might apply?
If you've got ideas, we'd love to hear them! You can send them directly to me (amy-colbert@Uiowa.edu), and I'll summarize the responses back to the list.
Thanks so much!
Amy
