    Dear Colleagues,

I'm looking for references of academic papers in which authors have used a methodology of "polar cases" (qualitative research).
More specifically, I am trying to understand how it is possible to reinforce validity of findings by contrasting them to "cases of falsification". I beleive this is also called "inverted falsification".
If anyone is aware of a study which uses such a methodology, help would be very much appreciated.

    Kind regards,

Take a look at `Designing  Social Inquiry' by King, Keohane and Verba.  It reviews analytical approaches to case study research and may have some good, albeit political science, examples.

I second the K,K&V recommendation.  In addition, there's Stephen Van Evera's Guide to Methods for Students of Political Science that gives a short, clear overview of how to create and test theory using cases.

    Best,
