    Good morning ,

I am planning a course in human resource management for undergra duate business majors this fall. I intend to lead the class with a focus on strategic HRM as it relates to issues of globalization and cultural diversity. If anyone has any recommendations for such a text, I would appreciate if you would reply to me at this address asmith4@tulane.edu .

    Thanks in advance!

For an emphasis on Strategic Issues and broad coverage (all functional areas) I use Anthony, Kacmar, and Perrewe's Human Resource Management: A Strategic Approach. This book is filled with a variety of terrific exercises.

    Lex,

I don't think that such a textbook really exists.  You can find some strategic HR texts out there, then supplement that with a book such as Michalle E. Mor Barak's Managing Diversity: Toward a Globally Inclusive Workplace (Sage, 2005). You could skip the first two chapters, and cover the rest.  The last chapters are very short, and some are very easy to cover.

The course you are trying to develop is super interesting and so necessary!!

    Thanks,

    Lex,

SHRM has a very comprehensive and useful study course for the PHR/SPHR exam and [especially] the SPHR materials would make an outstanding course outline and reference point for what you are developing.  The study course is based upon theory to practice and as a scholar and practitioner I have been impressed with the recent inclusions of HRM as a strategic partner, incorporating many components of utilizing research in a strategic practice sense.  The information is current and relevant.  Perhaps this can help you.

    Best regards,
