    Jack,

as a springboard I suggest to read the editorial "Positive Organizational Scholarship: Foundations of a New Discipline", Cameron, Dutton & Quinn, 2003. You might also be interested in Cameron's new book Positive Leadership (2008), although it I not empirical work.

    All the best,

    Stefan

I am looking for information on the use of positive management techniques (e.g., participative, democratic, affirming, inspirational) to increase employee motivation and commitment. I am especially interested in empirical work testing the effectiveness of such approaches, but would also like to read overviews of theory and practice covering the last 20 years in the field. I am just getting started on this so identification of scholars with a stream of work in this area would also be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Jack

You should also look into positive organizational behavior and psychological capital. The following references are a good start.
