  • 1.  Measure of Openness to Feedback

    Posted 12-17-2008 11:23

    Hello,

To anyone's knowledge, is there an instrument that measures an indivdual's openness or receptiveness to feedback?

I will be most appreciative to know if there is such an instrument.

    Thanks,

Yes, but the process is probably a bit different than you expect. See:

    Korsgaard, M. A., Meglino, B. M., & Lester, S. W. 1997. Beyond helping: Do other-oriented values have broader implications in organizations? Journal of Applied Psychology, 82: 160-177.

Information on the measure is available on my web page. The address appears in the signature below.

    Erika,

If I recall properly, there is also an abbreviated assessment in Whetten and Cameron's text, "Developing Management Skills."  It provides insight into both self-awareness and openness to feedback.

I cannot recall if this is their instrument or another author's.  I don't believe they post any validity measures.  You may want to contact them to see whether the instrument is available and what validation exists for the instrument.

    Best regards,

    Hi Erika,

I have developed a measure of humility which includes openness to feedback or teachability as a subcomponent. This is a 4 item measure. Is this what you are looking for?
