Proposal Submission Deadline: February 8, 2009

Handbook of Research on Online Instruments, Data Collection and Electronic Measurements: Organizational Advancements

A book edited by Dr. Mihai C. Bocarnea (Regent University), Dr. Rodney A. Reynolds (Azusa Pacific University), and Dr. Jason D. Baker (Regent University)

    Introduction

Extending the beneficial research effort started with IGI Global's  Handbook of Research on Electronic Surveys and Measurement (http://www.igi-global.com/reference/details.asp?id=5070) published in 2006, this Handbook of Research will provide methodological insights and practical information on electronic measurements specific to organizational research, including management, leadership, and human research development. In addition to addressing the fundamentals of online measuring, the book will provide the specifics of over 25 organizational online instruments, including their web location.

    Objective of the Book

The handbook will assist organizational researchers and practitioners in understanding and using online data collection appropriately by providing the necessary methodological knowledge related to online research and by presenting information about the empirical quality and the availability and location of specific online instruments with proven validity and reliability. The collection of instruments provided in the handbook will help researchers assess, locate, and use electronic measurements in organizational management and leadership, including human research development.

    Target Audience

The target audience of this book will be composed of academics, researchers, consultants, and managers interested in advancing the theoretical understanding and the practical application of using electronic instruments addressing organizational attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

The first section of the book will be dedicated to methodological issues related to online data collection (validity, reliability, sampling, and ethics).

The second section of the book consist of a series of 20-25 chapters which will address specific online organizational instruments, one instrument per chapter, with each chapter presenting (a) the theoretical background supporting the instrument, (b) its validity, (c) its reliability, (d) a brief summary of existing results, and (e) the web location of each instrument and a contact.  As a definition, electronic measurement is considered a system that allows collection of data from subjects by a computer or other type of electronic devices. Online measurements are electronic measurements in which data are collected via the internet.

The third section of the book will consist of a chapter which will address final considerations about online measurements in organizational research.

    Dear Colleagues:

We are seeking unique empirical research for inclusion as chapters for an edited volume on "Managing the New Workforce: International Perspectives on the Millennial Generation" (Edward Elgar, 2012).  We welcome research concerning career, work and management issues related to the Millennial generation (those people born in 1980 or later) from countries around the world in order to maximize the international representation in the book.

    BACKGROUND
Shifting demographics around the world have created a unique historical phenomenon in which a large cohort of employees (i.e., post-war Baby Boomers) are nearing retirement and a new cadre of younger workers are being recruited to replace them.  The rapid changes in social, technological, and historical events have led to very distinct cultural identities amongst the generations.  This has created a crisis in organizations as they strive to recruit and retain the younger generations who hold significantly different views in terms of values, attitudes, and expectations from the generation of workers that precede them (Lancaster & Stillman, 2002).  "Generation X" are those born between 1965 and 1979, and "Generation Y" are those born between 1979 and 2002 (Lyons, 2003).  Various authors have also referred to Generation Y as Millennials, Baby Boom Echo, Nexters, and the Nexus Generation (Barnard et al., 1998; Burke & Ng, 2006; Foot & Stoffman, 1998; Zenke et al., 2000).  These twenty-something year-olds represent the workforce of the future and come with their own set of expectations, demands, and work habits.  If they are to contribute to and eventually replace the current workforce, organizations would be well counseled to take note of their values, beliefs and behaviors.

    BOOK
The purpose of this edited volume is to document the differences among the various generations from around the world, with a particular focus on how Millennials are changing the ways in which organizations attract and retain employees, create meaningful work, and provide a fulfilling career.  The proposed volume will be published by Edward Elgar in 2012, with a March 1, 2012 firm deadline.  Each chapter should be around 7,000 words.  All chapters will be peer-reviewed and contributors may be asked to serve as reviewers for this project.

    YOUR PROPOSAL

If you are interested in contributing a chapter, please submit a one-page synopsis of your proposed chapter to edng@dal.ca by October 14, 2010.  We are particularly interested in research focused on China, India, Japan, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and South America. Your chapter should be based upon field research and supported by empirical data.

Dark Sides of Business and Higher Education Management

    Call for chapter

Editors Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch and Gianluigi Mangia

Why dark side and higher education

There are several reasons for that. The very first reason has been provided by the know-how (practice) in management, since the last decade has been abundant in numerous examples of corruption scandals in modern organizations and instances of management misconduct that have eroded public faith (such as Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, Adelphia, Arthur Andersen, Parmalat). It made us realize that there is highly active dark side to organizations that is quite unknown in management studies. However majority of the research and scientific publications on business and education management have been focusing on the positive, even romantic aspects of the organizations, leaders' behavior, the analysis of the positive influence of these behaviours on the members of a given organization and organizations as a whole. In current book and journal publications the "dark side" is pursuit as abnormal, dysfunctional or pathological aspects of business and education while the "dark side" is not exceptional; it is part of the normal community of everyday organizational activities.

The Second, research on the "dark side " is a new, emerging source of research in the area of Business and Higher Education Management.

The Third one can observe a significant gap in the market of scientific publications, both non-serial publications and periodicals in the above-discussed topics. Based on our personal experience, it may be the first book collection on this subject in the world.

The Fourth it is virtually impossible to carry all the works and research on the development of positive, bright sides of business and higher education without a thorough knowledge and understanding of the destructive, dark sides organization that have led and still lead to the collapse of many organizations and a decline in public confidence in the corporations and their leaders.

    The examples of possible topics

    ·    Corruption, bribery, organizational crime, fraud,

    ·    Plagiarism, cheating ,lying, spin and impression management

    ·    Harassment, bullying, discrimination, victimization, management by fear, stress.

    ·    The dark sides of creativity, emotional intelligence and the dark side of learning.

    ·    Dark sides of modern technologies., project management

    ·    Ambition, greed, careerism, obsession, revenge ( dark sides of leadership)

    ·    Secrecy, espionage, disinformation, surveillance, sabotage.

    ·    Abuse of power, aggression, intimidation, extortion, violence, ...
