Hi Colleagues – we are trying to argue that one can have
greater confidence in the hypothesized “scale gradations”
found, if these gradations or refinements (A1, A2 vs B1, B2)
are first anchored or fit within 2 well-established more
general scales (A vs B). Are there any strong citations out
there to support the basic strategy of:
1. first, using confirmatory factor analysis on a
literature-justified pool of items to test for the presence
of two hypothesized well-accepted general scales (A vs B)
cutting across this pool of items (and eliminating poor
loading items), before then
2. second, digging deeper into the remaining scale
items using exploratory factor analysis to see if
hypothesized “scale gradations” or refinements of the two
general factors exist (A1, A2 vs B1, B2)?
