  • 1.  High Performance Work Practices Survey Instrument

    Posted 09-18-2008 16:01

    Hello -

I was wondering if anyone was aware of a concise survey instrument (20-30 questions) for measuring High Performance Work Practices within an organization.

    Thank You!

    Kyle,

    You may find this helpful:

Zacharatos, A., Barling, J., & Iverson, R.D. (2005). High performance work systems and occupational safety.  Journal of Applied Psychology, 90, 77-93.

If I remember correctly, their instrument is longer but they cite research using other instruments. You can try and contact the authors and maybe shorten their scale.

    For a theory review see:

Becker, B., & Huselid, M. A. (1998). High performance work systems and firm performance: A synthesis of research and managerial implications. Research in Personnel and Human Resource Management, 16, 53–101.

    Hello Kyle,

You may find the following helpful as i am currently working on them to develop a survey instrument for my currnet study:

Snell & Dean (1992) Integrated Manufacturing and Human Resource Management: A Human Capital Perspective, Academy of Management Journal. Briarcliff Manor: Aug 1992. Vol. 35, Iss. 3

Datta, D.K., Guthrie, J.P. & Wright, P.M. 2005. HRM and labor productivity: Does industry matter? Academy of Management Journal, 48: 135-145.

Guthrie, J. P., 2001. High involvement workpractices, turnover and productivity:Evidence from New Zealand. Academy of Management Journal, 44: 180-190.

Huselid, M.A. 1995. The impact of human resource management practices on turnover, productivity, and corporate
financial performance. Academy of Management Journal, 38: 635-672.

Those sources are being used to develop an survey instrument used in Flood et al (2008) study. you can have a look at this study (with the instrument included in the study) in the following web site: www.ncpp.ie

please let me know if you find any thing of interest to me.
