  • 1.  Help with locating concise measures?

This listserve always proves to be a welcome and valued font of information, so I'm extending this request:

Colleagues and I have the opportunity to explore how membership in an industry peer group impact the members' quality of life (we're trying to get at the work/life balance aspect here), satisfaction with membership in the group, and levels of trust experienced by group members.

Could anyone point me toward some concise measures of those 3 variables?  I'll be happy to compile and share all suggestions that come my way.  Thanks much in advance for your help!

    Susan

    Dear Susan,

The most comprehensive list of measures for trust I know of is in appendix 2 of this book by Sandro Castaldo:
Castaldo, Sandro (2007) Trust in Market Relationships. Cheltenham, UK: Edward Elgar.

I would also encourage you and other OB members, who are interested in researching trust to join FINT, the "First International Network of Trust" researchers, teachers and practitioners.  This is a free, not for profit network and our newsletter, FINTnews, is distributed quarterly free of charge with information about conferences, calls for papers, articles and book reviews relating to trust.

The next issue of FINTnews deals with measurement of trust constructs and will contain these references:

    Dietz, G., & Den Hartog, D. N. (2006). Measuring trust inside organisations. Personnel Review, 35(5), 557-588.

Goudge, J., & Gilson, L. (2005). How can trust be investigated? Drawing lessons from past experience. Social Science & Medicine, 61, 1439–1451.

McEvily, B., & Tortoriello, M. (2007, August 3-8). Measuring Trust in Organizational Research: Review and Recommendations. Paper presented at the Academy of Management Conference, Philidelphia.

Seppänen, R., Blomqvist, K., & Sundqvits, S. (forthcoming). Measuring inter-organizational trust - a critical review of the empirical research in 1990-2003. Industrial Marketing Management.

If you are interested in FINT, please let me know.

Best of luck with your search!

    Cheers,

    Roxanne
