Dear Karen -
Although the work by James and James (1989) involves psychological climate, I think it might be of help to you.
James, L. A., & James, L. R. (1989). Integrating work environment perceptions: Explorations into the measurement of meaning. Journal of Applied Psychology, 74, 739-751.
Also, here's a recent review of the literature.
James, L. R., Choi, C. C., Ko, C-H. E., McNeil, P. K., Minton, M. K., Wright, M. A., et al. (2008). Organizational and psychological climate: A review of theory and research. European Journal of Work and organizational Psychology, 17, 5-32.
I hope this helps.
Michael

Subject: Non-specific Organizational Climate Measures
Colleagues,
We are currently working on an applied project in which we will be measuring organizational climate. Most of the literature I've seen has addressed a specific aspect of climate (most notably, safety climate). Can anyone direct me to some work that has looked at climate more broadly? We are interested in developing a climate index that encompasses higher-level facets of the organization. Thanks very much.
