    <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Army</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Center</st1:placetype></st1:place> of Excellence for the Professional Military Ethic

     

    The United Stated Military Academy (USMA) at <st1:place w:st="on">West Point</st1:place> seeks a Professor of Character Development and Research. Rank for this position is open depending on the qualifications of the candidate.  USMA was recently designated as the United States Army Center of Excellence for the Professional Military Ethic (ACPME).  The mission of the ACPME is to increase Army-wide understanding, ownership, and sustained development of ethics through research, education, and publication.  This position will offer the selected scholar an opportunity to join a team of ten other committed scholars with unprecedented opportunities to conduct large sample field research and high quality scholarship, all while contributing to a critical mission for the U.S. Army.

     

    The selected scholar will collaborate with scholars from Universities around the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">United States</st1:country-region></st1:place>, as well as a multi-disciplinary team of scholars from academic departments throughout USMA.  He or she will, 1) Serve as an expert on matters pertaining to character and moral/ethical research, education and development, and program assessment, 2) Develop, implement, and assess character development programs within the Army; 3) Develop instruments to measure individual and collective moral and ethical constructs, 4) Develop and conduct research and analyze and interpret findings, and 5) Author articles for publication in top professional and academic journals, while also contributing to the development of Army doctrine. The candidate for this position will also represent the ACPME at Army and external national/international level ethics conferences.  While this position is focused on research, a limited teaching load (anticipated at no more than one section in any given semester) may at times be required.  

     

    West Point is located on a bend on the picturesque Hudson River an hour north of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">New York City</st1:city></st1:place>.  The Academy maintains an over 200 year old history of developing the finest leaders of character for the Army and the Nation.  The University has state of the art facilities and technology to support research and scholarship.  The ACPME also has a support staff and research assistants to support advance research.  

     

    Applicants will be evaluated on: 1) Academic credentials (a Doctoral Degree in a related field preferred), 2) Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research using advanced quantitative and qualitative statistics and methodology, 3) Ability to communicate effectively in an academic environment with faculty, civilian and military personnel; 4) Demonstrated ability to write top tier journal articles and other scholarly works pertaining to Character Development; 5) Knowledge of instruction processes and methods to develop programs related to Character Development.
