Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that a close friend and colleague, Joseph C. Rost, passed away Saturday evening.
Most know him as the author of Leadership for the 21st Century; and some may also know that he was a co-founder (along with Bill Foster) of the first interdisciplinary leadership studies doctoral program at the University of San Diego.
About a week ago I had the opportunity to catch up with Joe and talk about the many good times we had as friends. He and I found it surprising that we had never discussed leadership research or practice until that conversation. It was then that I discussed his influence on my own thinking and research. Even though we both have a passion for leadership studies, our relationship was focused on our friendship and kinship. Our relationship was a manifestation of his conception of leadership - an influential relationship.
Joe influenced many people in many ways. Students, practitioners, scholars, friends and family have all been greatly impacted by his presence and contribution.
If anyone would like to make a donation to the Joe Rost Scholarship Fund, they can write or send it to Gary Neiger, director of Development, School of Leadership and Education Sciences, University of San Diego, San Diego, CA 9110-2492.
I do not have details regarding memorial arrangements at this time. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to call or write.
Best,
Dan
