  • 1.  individual contribution to teamwork in high power distance cultures

    Posted 06-10-2008 08:41

Colleagues, I will appreciate your collaboration:

I hold that in High Power Distance societies low-ranking teams are prone to insulate themselves from non-group supervisors who will have a hard time in providing fair rewards for individual performance within teams; leading to lower productivity of teamwork over the long run.

Much of the work on team performance I have found is related to communication, leadership, skills and abilities; but not to in-out group relations.

If I have missed something I would appreciate the references.

If you would like to join me doing comparative work I will be pleased to consider your offer. I work in Brazil and am dedicated to developing management instruments better attuned with our culture.

    Many thanks

    Dear Alfredo,

I have concentrated my study of team dynamics on group development in contact/call centres.

Interestingly (for me at least!) in 2006, I collected data from the South East USA while on sabbatical. I haven't fully analysed the interviews yet (I conduct predominately qualitative research) however, some evidence was collected regarding the effect of individual reward/remuneration Vs group performance.

Would this be of interest to you?

    Kind regards,
