A student of mine is looking for a measure of "knowledge of conflict resolution strategies" to use as a pre-test to determine a baseline assessment of research participants before they participate in a training study.  Any suggestions?

    Dear Kurt,

The following article investigated five commonly used strategies (i.e., advising, adversarial, autocratic, providing impetus, and avoidance):

Cropanzano, R., Aguinis, H., Schminke, M., & Denham, D. L. (1999). Disputant reactions to managerial conflict resolution tactics: A comparison among Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the United States. Group and Organization Management, 24, 124-154.

The article is available online at http://carbon.cudenver.edu/~haguinis/ [click on the "refereed journal articles" link]. The article includes a table with a detailed definition for each strategy and behavioral examples for each. You could use the information in this table to create knowledge-based questions that will allow you to test the extent to which each participant is aware of, or has used, each strategy.

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    --Herman.

    Hi Kurt,

Have a look to the Johnson & Johnson?s book: "Joining together: Group theory and
group skills". I think you will find there an scale that could fit to your needs.

    Warm regards,

    Hi Kurt,
I am not exactly sure what you are looking for, but ROCI-II (Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory)
may be appropriate for your research. It measures how an employee handles his/her conflict with
supervisor (Form A), subordinates (Form B), or Peers (Form C). The instrument measures five styles,
such as Integrating, Obliging, Dominating, Avoiding, and Compromising,
    Hope this helps.
