I have to design a course for undergraduate students aimed at
improving their understanding of 'the dissertation writing proccess
and research methods'. Where do i find ideas on curriculum, course
design etc. along with material to use in the classroom.

I have found Saunders Lewis and Thornhills 'Research Methods for
Business Students' 4thEd to be very useful. IT covers all the major
areas for research methods and is based around the ultimate goal of
writing a research report at the end of the course (different from a
    dissertation, but useful).

Bob Alford's book, The Craft of Inquiry is an excellent book that I used in graduate school when I was doing my PhD in sociology, and I have used it to teach undergraduate students how to write a senior thesis.  Alford spends a lot of time helping one formulate solid research questions drawing on 3 major paradigms (interpretive, multivariate and historical)... the methods one chooses arise out of this process.  I had great success with the undergraduate senior thesis students.

During my first doctoral semesters, I read (1) Doing a Literature Review by
Christopher Hart and (2) Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative, and
Mixed Methods Approaches by John W. Creswell.

    Both were very helpful

Three other resources for your consideration are:

Hertz R. & Imber J. (1995). Eds. Studying Elites using Qualitative Methods. Thousand Oaks. Sage.
(That it has been found to be necessary to devise a method for studying 'elites' is a good source for discussion).

Marschan-Piekkari & Welch C. (2004).  Eds.  Handbook of Qualitative Research Methods for International Business. Cheltenham. Elgar.
(Very comrehensive resource....eg. explains the value in using even numbered scales - eg. Likert - when surveying Asian subjects....another useful discussion trigger re cultural diversity)...

Layder D. (1998). Sociological Practice.  Linking Theory and Social Research. London. Sage.
(Chapter headings include: The link between theory & research; Elements of the Research Process; Analysng Data with Theory in Mind....).
A good resource for introducing research concepts and going well beyond the positivist paradigm....

    Best wishes.
