    We are recruiting for a Dean of the Mildred and George Weissman School of
    Arts and Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York to begin
    Fall 2008. The position is described below. Although not mentioned in the
    position description, Baruch College is the host of the City University of
    New York's Ph.D. program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
    The Mildred and George Weissman School of Arts and Sciences (WSAS), is one
    of three schools that comprise Baruch College of The City University of New
    York, one of the nation’s leading public institutions of higher education.
    The School is an outstanding arts and sciences school with the atmosphere of
    a small college and the resources of a major public university. The School
    offers personalized, supportive attention for its 2,600 majors, as well as
    unique programs linking the arts and sciences with business and public
    affairs. The School has a dynamic, collegial, and nationally-recognized
    faculty of more than 200 full-time members, organized into 12 departments,
    with courses in the liberal arts disciplines traditionally considered
    essential to a well-rounded education. All Baruch students take at least
    half of their courses in the liberal arts and are required to complete a
    minor in one of these disciplines. WSAS offers exciting opportunities for
    freshmen students through learning communities, and for advanced arts and
    sciences students through intensive interdisciplinary seminars and
    independent study. WSAS features a series of specializations that bridge the
    Weissman School with the Zicklin School of Business and School of Public
    Affairs, such as Arts Administration, Business Journalism, Corporate
    Communication, Graphic Communication, and Music Management. The School
    offers Master’s programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Corporate
    Communication, and Financial Engineering. Each of these programs reflects
    the unique position of a first-rate school of arts and sciences allied with
    the largest accredited business school in the country.

    The Dean reports to the Provost and serves as a member of the President’s
    Cabinet. He or she is responsible for leadership of the Weissman School’s
    planning, budgeting and faculty development and for managing its programs to
    enhance its quality and reputation. The Dean is expected to coordinate the
    School’s role in carrying out the College’s strategic plan and is
    responsible for managing a budget in excess of $26 million. The Dean will
    strengthen and expand relationships with both external and internal
    constituencies and will help develop additional financial resources for the
    School to carry out its mission.


    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
    PhD and publication record suitable for appointment as a tenured full
    professor as well as a minimum of 8 years related experience required.
    Candidates must have a record of innovative leadership and a dynamic
    academic vision for the future that will secure for the Weissman School its
    competitive niche and reputation for excellence. Candidates must have a
    record of accomplishment in management/administrative positions; familiarity
    with academic institutions; effective communication and interpersonal
    skills; appreciation of scholarly research; experience and ability to
    promote the School and secure resources; demonstrated interest in the issues
    concerning urban, metropolitan, academic institutions; high energy;
    exemplary personal and professional integrity.
