Abstract:
A growing concern on fostering entrepreneurship as an accelerator in renewing economies and societies has inspired entrepreneurship education research to bridge the boarders of disciplines and to broaden its scope and contexts. As European Commission highlights the importance of the creation of an entrepreneurial culture by fostering the right mindset, entrepreneurship skills and awareness of its career opportunity are essential part of its competitiveness and welfare.
ᅵ
As broadly understood entrepreneurship refers to the way that individuals and organisations create and implement new ideas and ways of doing things, respond proactively to the environment, and thus initiate change involving uncertainty and complexity. It is argued that regardless of career path, key entrepreneurial principles and theories are useful for nurturing enterprising attitudes and behaviour. This refers to a state of mind applicable to all settings and aspects of life. Considering traditional knowledge-oriented teaching, these definitions actually represent a curriculum reform per se. As the recent European survey indicated, the teaching methods deemed effective in entrepreneurial education were often different from the methods traditionally used in academia and these educational themes and methodologies were often new for most of the HEIs. Also some research findings from European countries indicate that teachers have difficulties on the one hand in understanding what entrepreneurial and enterprising pedagogy means and on the other hand they are unsure about their competences to adopt it in teaching.
ᅵ
This intensified interest in entrepreneurship education reflects the changes in entrepreneurship education research. It has moved from content questions to the processes of learning and teaching, expanded its scope to pre-intention and intention phases as well as to learning environments and started to investigate the dialogue between organizational change, curriculum development and pedagogy. These developments have inspired researchers to cross the boarders of disciplines and find ideas from different fields of science. This track offers an arena to scholars interested in sharing their conceptual and empirical findings of these diverse aspects of entrepreneurship education.
