TENURED/TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND/OR HUMAN RESOURCES

The Management and Organization department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is hiring for open-rank tenured or tenure-track faculty positions (i.e., assistant, associate or full professors) in the organizational behavior and/or human resources area (subject to budgetary approval). Applicants must possess or be nearing completion of a doctorate in organizational behavior, human resources or in closely related disciplines such as industrial-organizational or social psychology. They should have demonstrated capability for high-impact research and excellent teaching.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business (www.rhsmith.umd.edu) is recognized as one of the world's leading business schools in the country. The Smith School has MBA and undergraduate programs, a rapidly expanding portfolio of executive education programs including EMBA programs in both the US and China, as well as a doctoral program. In the most recent surveys, U.S. News & World Report ranked the Smith Undergraduate Program as #19 (Management as #10) while Financial Times ranked the Smith MBA Program as #18 in the U.S.

The Management and Organization department is particularly proud to be viewed as one of the stronger departments (http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/management) in the business school. We have 30 core faculty whose interests and responsibilities cover the following areas: organizational behavior, human resources, strategy, globalization, and entrepreneurship. Research excellence serves as the foundation of the M&O department. A recent analysis of publications in the most prestigious journals related to the above areas indicated that, on a worldwide basis, M&O ranked among the leading five over the past five years. Some other indicators of the strength and scholarly reputation of M&O faculty include: (a) seven Fellows, including past Dean of Fellows, of the Academy of Management; (b) two Past Presidents of the Academy of Management; (c) several past members of the 11-member board of governors of the Academy of Management; (d) six University of Maryland Distinguished Scholar-Teachers; (e) multiple editorships and editorial board memberships on highly prestigious academic journals; and (f) multiple best paper awards from prestigious journals and academies. M&O also has a vibrant PhD program which is getting stronger each year. Recent placements of PhD graduates include universities ranked in the top 20 institutions for management research. M&O faculty also believe in teaching excellence. Over the last several years, M&O faculty have earned some of the highest teaching ratings in the school. It is our belief that excellence in research and teaching relates to a culture of collaboration and intellectual synergy.

Given the Smith School's location in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, faculty and staff at Smith enjoy not only a strong institutional environment but also the pleasures of living in a vibrant and leading global city which is very cosmopolitan, rich in world-class museums and the performing arts, architecturally delightful, full of greenery with the beautiful Potomac River flowing right through the city, within one to two hours of driving distance from not only beaches but also ski slopes, and home to some of the country's best public and private schools.

Applicants who submit materials by September 15, 2011 will be given full consideration, although review of applications will begin immediately.  Please note, however that, applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed until the positions are filled. Applicants should send: (1) a current vita, (2) a personal statement or letter summarizing their research, (3) evidence of teaching excellence, and (4) three letters of recommendation (applicants are required to provide names and email addresses of the referees who will then be contacted). Please apply at https://jobs.umd.edu. (Refer to position #114991 in the faculty listing). Please direct any questions to Ms. Erica Scarpulla (escarpulla@rhsmith.umd.edu), who is administratively assisting Professor Subra Tangirala (stangirala@rhsmith.umd.edu), Chair, OB/HR Faculty Search Committee.
