    Faculty Position(s) in Organizational Behavior and/or Human Resources

     

    The Department of Management and Organizations at The University of Iowa invites applicants for one or more tenure-track positions in Organizational Behavior and/or Human Resources in Fall 2008. Applicants at all ranks will be considered.  Salary is commensurate.

     

    Qualifications:  Applicants must have 1) a demonstrated potential for publishing significant  organizational behavior or human resources research in top-tier journals, 2) a demonstrated high level of teaching competence, and 3) an earned doctorate (entry-level candidates can be near completion). Applicants must be capable of teaching in the undergraduate, MBA and/or doctoral programs. Candidates will work actively with our doctoral students.

    The department has 10 tenure-track faculty members and two clinical faculty in the areas of Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, Behavioral Decision Making, Strategic Management and Business Law.  The <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">John</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Pappajohn</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Entrepreneurial</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Center</st1:placetype></st1:place>, the first in the nation to bring together students and faculty in engineering, business, and the medical sciences, is located in the department.  The department is known for its excellence in research and teaching. There are three research chairs or professorships, four research fellows, the editor of Academy of Management Journal, an associate editor of Journal of Applied Psychology, numerous memberships on editorial boards of leading journals, and numerous research awards. The department has been recognized for teaching effectiveness, with numerous collegiate and University teaching awards, and the university's only teaching professorship. Department members work actively with doctoral students in research and publishing activities.  The Chronicle of Higher Education's 2005 Index of Scholarly Productivity ranked the department 5th among management departments in top research universities in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">United States</st1:country-region></st1:place>.     The Henry B. Tippie College of Business is housed in the 179,000 sq. ft. John Pappajohn Business Building.  This facility has state-of-the-art facilities, including the Marvin A. Pomerantz Business Library, the latest information technology in all the classrooms and a behavioral research lab.  The full-time Tippie MBA program was ranked in the top 50 programs in 2007 by U.S. News and World Report and The Financial Times (World and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">U.S.</st1:country-region></st1:place>). Forbes ranks the MBA program 12th overall and 3rd among public universities, while The Economist ranks it among the Top 20 public universities in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">U.S.</st1:country-region></st1:place> The <st1:city w:st="on">Iowa City</st1:city> area community includes Coralville, <st1:place w:st="on">North Liberty</st1:place>, Solon, and other small towns with a total population of about 100,000. The University both provides and attracts a wide variety of cultural opportunities, Big Ten athletic events, and a number of business endeavors resulting from scientific and educational research that originated at Iowa. In the summers, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Iowa City</st1:city></st1:place> sponsors weekly downtown jazz and pop concerts, and throughout the year major poets, writers, artists, historians, scientists, and others speak or perform in University venues or read at local bookstores. Excellent public schools, close, safe, and comfortable neighborhoods, and a highly educated population mean that <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Iowa City</st1:city></st1:place> frequently appears high on "best-place-to-live" listings in national magazines. The nearby countryside, good state parks, and the <st1:place w:st="on">Iowa River</st1:place> provide many opportunities for walking, biking, and boating. Twenty miles to the north is <st1:city w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">Iowa</st1:state>'s second-largest city, home to the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Eastern</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Iowa</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">Airport</st1:placetype></st1:place> and a population of about 120,000.
