Much like the Abominable Snowman whose footprints are everywhere but is nowhere to be seen, discussion of human, social and psychological capital continues to proliferate in management literature and within corporate annual reports. Unfortunately, evidence for the existence of and return on investment (ROI) in these and other related forms of human-oriented intangible assets often rely on non-binding and non-measureable (as well as idiosyncratic) postulates resistant to calculation and therefore nearly impossible to use for any comparative market valuation. This workshop will address ongoing problems in researching human, social and psychological capital and practical problems of measuring these forms of capital within organizational settings. The workshop will also create a forum for discussing emerging academic approaches and best practices in defining, measuring and developing human, social and psychological capital. Using a panel discussion, this workshop draws from the insights of four exceptional scholars: John Boudreau and Gary Latham (ROI in HR and human capital), Wayne Baker (social capital) and Fred Luthans (psychological capital). On the practice side will be Tim Hodges, The Gallup Organization; Mike Echols, The Human Capital Lab; and Boyce Byerly, Capital Analytics. These are three exemplary consulting groups working with Fortune 500 companies on quantifying HR ROI.
No prior registration or preparation is required, but if you have specific topics or questions for our panelists to address during the Q&A time, simply bring them along, or you can e-mail the in advance to carolyn.youssef@bellevue.edu. We hope to see you there!
