Advancing Leadership Research: A Mentoring Session with Passion and Compassion

    Saturday, August 07, 2010 5:15 PM - 7:15 PM (Eastern Time)

    Location: Le Centre Sheraton, Lamartine

This Academy of Management PDW provides students and junior faculty the opportunity to discuss their leadership research in an informal, collegial, roundtable setting with prominent leadership scholars. Based on their proposed research theory and methods, the junior scholars will be matched with a more senior scholar with similar research interests (not from their home university). At the workshop, the senior scholar will discuss research proposals submitted by the junior scholars, providing insights and suggestions for future research directions. This year, in addition to individual research projects, we also welcome team research projects.

The senior leadership scholars (members of The Leadership Quarterly Editorial Board) who will be mentoring the junior scholars are: Michael Mumford (Senior Editor), Gary Yukl, Claudia Cogliser, William Gardner, David Day, Kevin Lowe, Chet Schriesheim, and Ken Parry.

The focus will be on developing theoretical foundations and designing high quality empirical studies. This is a great opportunity for the junior scholars to develop their ideas, and may even lead to future academic collaborations. This PDW is one of the few sessions at the conference which will give people a venue to get direct feedback on their work in progress. It is not suited for participants with completed research projects, or data already collected.

The most promising research proposal will receive an award, generously sponsored by the Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute, at the School of Business Administration, University of Miami. The recipient of The Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute Best Proposal Award ($250 check) will be determined by the organizer, Dr Marie Dasborough, and the Institute's Academic Director, Professor Terri Scandura.

    To participate in this workshop:

    ·         Participants must submit a research proposal to Dr. Marie Dasborough by July 5, 2010 (m.dasborough@miami.edu) before registering for this PDW. In the email submission, participants should indicate if they are a doctoral student or junior faculty member. They should also indicate their top 3 preferences for who they would like to work with from the list of senior leader scholars.

    ·         Once the research proposal has been received, participants will then receive an approval code so they can register online. Registration is required at https://secure.aomonline.org/PDWReg. The deadline to register online is July 10, 2010.
