    Hi Stan;

    I have been using the Organizational Culture Inventory (Human Synergistics) for about 10 years, with MBA students, and with excellent results. I have them perform the OCI on their place of work (or a previous place of work), then have them write a 3-5 page paper analyzing the results. It leads itself to robust group break-out discussions.

    Hope this helps,

    Andy Klein

    This is a great exercise, but I think the reference contains a typo -- isn't the year  2001, as opposed to 2002?

    Stan,

    I can recommend three plus a link on the web to many more (don't know if it valid). The first is the "power game," the second "Win as Much as You Can," and the third is the "beer game." All three would be suitable for your course.

    The Power Game was developed by Lee Bolman and Terry Deal, and has been used in many MBA courses. Bolman, L. G. and Deal, T. E. "A Simple But Powerful Power Simulation." Exchange: the Organizational Behavior Teaching Journal, 1979, 4, 38-42.

    The Win as Much as You Can is also known as the Red-Green game. It is a great example of organization dynamics and how a shared vision and clear communications are essential for organizations to be successful. It is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, I was able to find only one link on the web; if you would like, I would send you my own notes on the game – just send me your email address.

    The Beer Game is a board game put out by the Systems Dynamic Society, and shows how organization structure leads to results.

    There is a great list put out by The Ohio State University Extension; I don't know if the kit they mention is still available, but it looks great. http://www.ag.ohio-state.edu/~bdg/pdf_docs/a/Intro_01.pdf

    Hi All,

    I've had good success getting students to do a "culture plan" for a start-up.  I note that start-ups have financial plans but not culture plans so what kind of work culture do you wish to create and what do you have to do to make it happen?  Leads to lot of good discussion about means-ends relationships and how difficult it is to create and maintain a particular kind of culture.
