    On behalf of my colleagues at Virginia Tech I would like to thank
    members of the Academy of Management for your prayers and your
    expressions of support and solidarity in the wake of the tragic
    shootings here this past week. Although this was a terrible blow to our
    community it has brought us closer together in many ways. It has also
    given us a greater sense of connectedness with colleagues throughout the
    world. Anyone who saw the spontaneous cheering at the end of Tuesday's
    convocation honoring the victims or heard the stories of heroism during
    the attacks knows that while the "Hokie" spirit here is bruised it is
    not broken. We pray that we all might learn something on value from
    this tragedy.

    Sincerely, Rich Wokutch

    Following is the best I can do. Words are so inadequate.

    Jim
                                            Grief

    Summer's blue skies left us.

    Though we knew they could not stay,

    It seems unfair and painful

    When they're suddenly snatched away.

    Fall’s majestic colors,

    The crispness in the air

    Warn that the trees of Summer

    Will, all too soon, be bare.

    The air is chilled, the sky is gray;

    Leaves turn and die and fall.

    The naked trees forewarn us

    Of Winter's deathly pall.

    Winter’s storms and cold harsh winds,

    Chill us to the bone.

    A reminder that the warmth of Summer

    Has waxed and waned and gone.

    But plod we will through Winter;

    Through cold, darkness, and pain.

    ’Till The Master says, “ ’tis Springtime,

    Let all things live again!”
