  • 1.  Material for Undergraduate Leadership Course

    Hi,

I'll be teaching an undergraduate leadership course (25 students) for the first time this Spring. I will be using the Daft textbook (the leadership experience), and I'm now looking for supplemental readings and exercises. Does anybody have any suggestions? Those would be tremendously appreciated. Of course, it would also be great for me to see syllabi of courses that have used the Daft text.

    Thanks,
    Maria

Maria, I taught an undergraduate leadership course when I was at Chapman University.  I used Daft's text, with some supplemental materials.  I found the text to be very acceptable.

I have attached the syllabus for that course.

    Good luck!

    Dear Maria

Hi.  I teach sociology at St. Joseph's College.  I have an article entitled Between Bureaucracy and Charisma: Leadership in the Fashion Industry.   Most of the data comes from my dissertation which was a case study of fashion designers and management at the Tommy Hilfiger firm.  Maybe it could be of interest as a reading.  When I taught sociology of organizations I assigned a chapter or two from Jay Conger's book Charismatic Leadership.  It was relatively easy for them to read.  If you'd like I'll send the article to you.

    Veronica,

I would very much appreciate receiving a copy of your article, and if it is in electronic form, your dissertation. My interests/concerns are only slightly different than Maria's. I teach in both an executive education program and in an MBA program. The former is in the Executive Education department at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case University, Cleveland, Ohio and the latter is at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.

Thank you for considering this request.
