    Dear Colleagues,

I am looking for some better text on "Qualitative
Research Methods" like interviewing, content analysis,
Framing, grounded theory etc. There are many books
available, can someone suggest the renowned and most
comprehensine one?.Looking forward for your positive
    and useful feedback.

    Abdul,

If you are looking for articles to supplement your textbook, please note that the July 2008 issue of Organizational Research Methods will include a feature topic (i.e., set of articles) addressing the topic "evaluating the quality of qualitative research." The articles included in this issue are listed below, and they are already available at http://orm.sagepub.com if your library subscribes to ORM.

    All the best,

    Hi Abdul Karim,

I would recommend two books (both  by Sage Publications) for a comprehensive coverage of qualitative methodology: Patton, M.Q. (2003). Qualitative Research & Evaluation Methods (3rd Ed.); and Strauss, A.C., & Corbin, J. (1998). Basics of Qualitative Research (2nd Ed.). Hope this helps!

    Abdul,
Is this for your own use or for teaching purposes? If for teaching purposes
there is a great well-rounded text, "Qualitative Research and Evaluation
    Methods" by Patton. Good Luck.....

    Abdul,

Personally, I would recommend Kathy Charmaz?s book ?Constructing
Grounded Theory? (2006). I found it to be more generative and less
rigid than Strauss & Corbin?s ?Basics of Qualitative Research? (1998),
although they are fairly similar. Charmaz was a former student of
    Strauss.

    Good luck!

    Abdul,

For grounded theory, an excellent book is:

Locke, Karen. Grounded Theory in Management Research. Sage Publications.

A major advantage is that it is written from the viewpoint of research in management.

She also periodically teaches an excellent workshop at CARMA.

Additional information about CARMA can be found at  http://www.pubinfo.vcu.edu/carma/

    Abdul,

I have been waiting for just such an e-mail so that I could make a thinly veiled attempt at promoting a new book in which I have a chapter ; )

If your focus is on leadership research you will find this very on point, with excellent chapters on all of the areas of interest that you had mentioned.

    Abdul,

I recommend Tom Lee's book, "Using Qualitative Methods in Organizational
Research." I think it has several advantages over other texts:

    1. It is written specifically with our field in mind. Some of the other
texts on qualitative research focus on methods that are perhaps less
    relevant to organizational research.
    2. It discusses not just how to do qualitative research, but also when it is
    most appropriate.
    3. It discusses how to combine qualitative and quantitative research in
    studies.
    4. It is fairly short (192 pages).
