    Hi, all--
Does anyone know of any research articles on pedagogical or other efforts
to develop citizenship in business students? (This refers to civic
responsibility and is not to be confused with organizational citizenship
behavior.) This is part of our college's mission statement and we are
exploring methods to deliver on this.

    Many, many thanks.

    Dov,

In addition to the Denison (1996) article I would also suggest the
below articles and book chapters. I think the Reichers & Schneider's
    chapter (1990) is particularly helpful.

    Yes.
My colleague and I have been working on this and are currently
validating an instrument that addresses student and faculty
civility....as perceived and defined by the students. Our first
presentation on this data will be at SAM...I'll gladly get a copy of the
paper to you once it is completed.

    Hi, Stan,

I haven't run across any specific articles which focus on business
students. However, I've attached a reference list from a dissertation
committee I'm on where the student is evaluating the relationship between
college and post-college civic engagement activities.

    Best,
    Alisa

    Posted 02-23-2008 23:38
    Stan,

I believe that if you want to implement activities to help students to develop citizenship, then pedagogical methods may not help. A more andragogical approaches may be more effective. Students should select real life business individuals who have proven to be great citizens. Then they should analyze what makes these individuals great citizens, what other people to say about them, how their citizenship behavior interferes or not with their business careers, etc. There is no guarantee that students would become good citizens themselves. To know this you would have to make multiple observations on the students' professional careers for many years down the road!
