    Hello,

We are hiring two organizational behavior postdoctoral scholars at USC Marshall and UC Berkeley Haas. For more details, please see below.

    Best,

Nate Fast (USC Marshall) & Juliana Schroeder (Berkeley Haas)

    ----------

We plan to hire 2 postdoctoral researchers in the Fall of 2023 to study the effects of AI and new technology on societal and individual well-being, working closely with the USC Neely Center for Ethical Leadership and the Psychology of Technology Institute. The positions will be for a 2-year term and are funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Each postdoctoral scholar position is intended to support a talented scholar doing research relevant to understanding how the adoption of new technology is affecting 1) society's ability to coordinate to achieve collective goals and solve important problems and 2) individuals' and leaders' ability to foster psychological and social well-being. One postdoc will be housed at USC (working with PI Nathanael Fast) and the other at UC Berkeley (working with PI Juliana Schroeder), both of whose research labs have ongoing efforts to collect data related to these outcomes. The ideal candidate will be intrinsically interested in scholarship but also in informing meaningful change in how technology products are developed, used and regulated. Research programs may include, but are not limited to, the effects of mixed reality (AR/VR) experiences on individuals and groups, the psychological determinants and consequences of adopting and using AI (including AI-based algorithms and generative AI models), and analysis of large datasets to inform psychology and organizational behavior (e.g., social media and well-being).

Before beginning this position, fellows must have completed a PhD (or at least a successful dissertation defense) in a discipline related to the human effects of technology (e.g., organizational behavior, psychology, sociology, communications, human-computer interaction) and have demonstrated an interest in and ability to advance research that can move the field forward. Candidates will also be evaluated on their interest in building ties across disciplines, as well as with stakeholders in the technology and policy communities.

Once hired, the fellow will be expected to continue to pursue their research program, as well as to work with the Psychology of Technology Institute's research community to complement and magnify the applied impact of their current research.

Review of candidates for the positions will begin on February 15th and continue until the positions are filled. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, two letters of recommendation, a representative manuscript, and a research statement describing their interests (including any specific faculty collaborators and/or projects they would like to pursue as part of the fellowship). In order to receive full consideration, please submit your application materials online here for USC (position will be listed in the next 24 hours; email nathanaf@usc.edu with questions) or https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF03792 (for UC Berkeley).

For questions about this position, please contact Juliana Schroeder (jschroeder@haas.berkeley.edu) or Nate Fast (nathanaf@usc.edu).
