Dear colleagues,
if you're attending AOM and have ever been asked to "reframe your theory" during the peer review process, we want to flag a PDW that may be of interest:
"Where is my Framework? The Perils of Theorizing After Results are Known (TARKing)" (Submission ID: 15225)
When: Sunday, July 27 | 8:30 - 10:30am
Where: Bella Center, Hall D - D4-m2
TARKing "Theorizing After Results are Known", refers to the common yet controversial practice of revising theoretical frameworks post hoc to better fit empirical findings, often in response to reviewer feedback. While widespread, it raises important questions about research integrity and the role of theory in our field.
We'll explore this issue interactively with a fantastic panel of scholars:
- Tammy D. Allen, University of South Floria
- Claudia Buengeler, Christian Albrecht University of Kiel
- Nale Lehmann-Willenbrock, University of Hamburg
- Ernest O'Boyle, Indiana University Bloomington
- Mo Wang, University of Florida
The session will focus on recognizing, addressing, and preventing TARKing in our roles as authors, reviewers, and editors. We'd love to see you there!
Best wishes,
Mona Weiss, Jan Schmutz, Dana Unger, Mirko Antino & Wiebke Doden (the organizers)
