    Call for Abstracts

Open Innovation in Science (OIS) Research Conference 2025

    May 14-16 | Vienna, Austria

    Dear colleagues,

We invite you to join the discussion about the processes, effects, and boundary conditions of openness and collaboration in scientific research at the upcoming 6th OIS Research Conference. This year, the special conference theme focuses on The Future of Academia-Industry Collaboration: Drivers, Opportunities, and Risks of Novel Forms of Engagement Landscape. In special theme sessions, we'll discuss how traditional models remain important, while new models are emerging, that are more dynamic, flexible, and open, integrating multiple stakeholder groups. These approaches emphasize co-creation, open sharing and reuse of data, materials, or equipment, and foster iterative feedback between researchers and industry professionals throughout the design, implementation, and translation of scientific research projects. By doing so, they aim to achieve not only breakthroughs in scientific discovery but also a higher likelihood of translation into societally relevant innovations.

Works both empirical and conceptual in nature are welcome and abstracts (250-500 words in length) can be submitted through the submission platform (https://ois-research-conference.org/submission/). Please see our Call for Abstracts for more details: https://ois-research-conference.org/call-for-abstract/

    Submission deadline: January 19, 2025

Researching OIS includes investigating whether, how, and under which conditions applying open and collaborative practices along one or more stages of the scientific research process influences novelty, efficiency, and/or the impact of scientific research, taking a balanced view that recognizes important contingency factors on the individual, organizational, and ecosystem-level.

In addition to the paper presentation sessions and opportunities for socializing, the conference program includes several sessions related to this year's special conference theme. These include a keynote speeches, an OIS debate, co-sponsored with AoM TIM Division, and an OIS experimentation session, and a Junior Paper Development Workshop.

    Best regards,

The Organizing Team - Susanne Beck, Christoph Grimpe, Marion Poetz, and Henry Sauermann
