We are thrilled to put on an AOM presenter symposium (sponsored by the OB, DEI, and CMS divisions) entitled "Rooted Resistance: The Complexities of Hair and Non-Conforming Self-Presentations in the Workplace."
This presenter symposium brings together five pioneering papers that:
- Dissect intersectional dynamics of self-presentation within organizational contexts, particularly as they relate to Black identity in the U.S. and Central America.
- Present a novel perspective on how hair and other aspects of appearance shape and are shaped by racialized, gendered, and classed experiences in the workplace.
- Highlight systemic gendered racism.
- Establish the need for additional research examining the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and organizational implications of cultural expectations, norms, and values on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingness.
