Dear Colleagues,
we are excited to invite applications for our upcoming virtual PDW:
Data Interpretation & Framing in Paradox Research
Part of the Paradox PDW Series – A Shared Journey of Developing Paradox Research
📅 June 26, 2026
⏰ 08:00–10:00 ET | 14:00–16:00 CEST
💻 Virtual Workshop
This PDW focuses on one of the most challenging - and often least openly discussed - aspects of paradox research: How do we make sense of complex empirical data and develop compelling paradox theorising from it?
We are very happy to welcome the following panelists:
- Wendy K. Smith (University of Delaware)
- Harald Tuckermann (University of St. Gallen)
- Simone Carmine (Université de Genève)
The session combines:
- reflections from experienced scholars on theorizing from empirical data
- developmental discussions with selected presenters
- collaborative exploration of framing, interpretation, and tensions in research processes
Meanwhile, the research process itself is deeply paradoxical. As scholars, we constantly navigate tensions between complexity and simplicity, openness and structure, induction and deduction, novelty and continuity. Rather than treating these tensions as problems to eliminate, this PDW aims to explore how they may become productive sources of theorizing and methodological creativity.
📣 CALL FOR ONE-PAGE APPLICATIONS
We will select three presenters to discuss their ongoing projects and empirical material with the panelists and participants.
Everyone interested is warmly welcome to participate in the workshop discussion.
🗓 Application & Registration Deadline: June 12, 2026
