    Greetings colleagues,

I have the unique privilege of inviting you all to a thought-provoking symposium featuring some of our community's finest scholars:

Theoretical and Empirical Advances on Destructive Leadership (Session 10938)

    📆Monday, July 28 🕣8:30-10:00AM

    Bella Center Hall BB6-m2

Destructive leadership-when leaders engage in volitional behavior that harms or intends to harm others-remains one of the most pressing and costly challenges in organizational life. As such, scholarly attention to this topic within the organizational sciences has grown at an exponential level.
This symposium builds on that momentum, offering a dynamic set of theoretical and empirical papers that examine the antecedents, forms, and consequences of destructive leadership. Drawing on a wide array of theories across Organizational Behavior (OB), Conflict Management (CM), and Social Issues in Management (SIM), these papers shed light on both how destructive leadership unfolds and how it might be mitigated.
    Symposium Presenters (*) and Coauthors:
    • Small self, big change: How awe reduces abusive supervision in leaders

Yang Bai* (Peking University), Run Ren (Peking University), Huiwen Lian (Texas A&M University), Li Ma (Peking University)

    • Unethical leadership: Moral threat, learning, and outcomes

Gabriela Rivera* (The Pennsylvania State University), Linda K. Treviño (The Pennsylvania State University), Anjier Chen (National University of Singapore)

    • My leader is abusing me, and it's all my fault! The moderating effect of leader passion on abusive supervision and self-blame

    • Paper 5: The battle between good and evil: A longitudinal investigation of dynamic relations between abusive supervisory and ethical leadership behaviors

Wei Wang* (University of Manitoba), Michelle K. Duffy (University of Minnesota)

We are honored to have Dr. David M. Mayer (University of Michigan) as our Discussant. A leading voice in the study of destructive and unethical leadership, Dr. Mayer will offer critical insights, pose forward-looking questions, and help foster a rich audience discussion.
We invite any scholars interested in leadership, ethics, emotion, or social dynamics at work. Any AOM attendee is welcome to attend-no additional registration required.
