As you finalize your plans for this year’s annual meeting of the Academy of Management in August, please join us for a conversation about the next wave of research regarding the strategic leadership of business ecosystems. We are fortunate to have some of the world’s premier researchers on this topic who will share their thoughts on how best to advance theory and research on business ecosystems and strategic leadership. In addition to the panel discussion and a moderated Q&A session, we will be discussing a forthcoming special issue in Journal of Management Studies which seeks to deepen our understanding of this area of research (more details are available here).

ABSTRACT
While there has been an explosion of research on business ecosystems of late, the implications for strategic leadership research are rarely investigated. We propose this symposium to address two core questions to advance theory and research on business ecosystems and strategic leadership. First, what role do strategic leaders play in ecosystems' design, development, and evolution, including value co-creation? Second, what are the implications of business ecosystems for the extant strategic leadership theory and research? We bring together a panel of leading scholars to discuss these questions from their own research perspectives and to stimulate a set of questions for future research. We aim to build a vibrant community of scholars interested in these questions.
