    Hello,

We are hiring two postdoctoral scholars at UC Berkeley Haas and USC Marshall. For more details, please see below.

    Best,

Juliana Schroeder (Berkeley Haas) & Nate Fast (USC Marshall)

    ----------

UC Berkeley & USC plan to hire 2 postdoctoral researchers to study the effects of Technology on societal and individual well-being in the fall of 2023, working closely with the Psychology of Technology Institute. The position will have an initial term of 1 year, with the hope that the position could be extended indefinitely based on mutual fit, subject to funding.

This postdoctoral scholar position is intended to support a talented scholar doing research relevant to understanding how increasing adoption of technology is affecting 1) society's ability to coordinate on important problems and 2) individual psychological health. The Psychology of Technology Institute has ongoing efforts to collect data related to these outcomes and candidates will be asked to integrate these data sources into their ongoing research programs.  The ideal candidate will be intrinsically interested not only in scholarship, but also in informing meaningful change in how technology products are developed and regulated.  USC and UC Berkeley currently have strengths in interdisciplinary and applied research on the effects of technology adoption leveraging the Psychology of Technology Institute network. Candidates whose research interests intersect with these strengths will be preferred.

Before beginning this position, fellows must have completed a PhD (or at least a successful dissertation defense) in a discipline related to the human effects of technology (e.g., organizational behavior, psychology, sociology, human computer interaction) and have demonstrated an interest in and ability to advance research that can move the field forward. Candidates will also be evaluated on their interest in and enthusiasm for building ties across disciplines, as well as with stakeholders in the technology and policy communities.

Once hired, the fellow will be expected to continue to pursue their research program, as well as to work with the Psychology of Technology Institute community to complement and magnify the applied impact of their current research.  The fellow will also be expected to collaborate with existing staff on ongoing research related to improving the human-technology relationship.

Review of candidates for the position will begin on January 24 and continue through the end of June. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, two letters of recommendation, a representative manuscript, and a research statement describing their interests (including any specific faculty collaborators and/or projects they would like to pursue as part of the fellowship). In order to receive full consideration, please submit your application materials online at https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF03792 (for UC Berkeley) or email nathanaf@marshall.usc.edu (for USC).
