Behind the Publication: Insights from the Publication Process
Organizers: Stephanie Chan-Ahuja, London Business School and Laura Giurge, London School of Economics
    Hybrid (In-person + Zoom), August 6th 10am-12pm PST

    Who is this PDW for?

If you are interested to learn how to publish in a top management journal and have questions to ask scholars who have experience publishing in top management journals, then this is the PDW for you!

    Overview

This PDW brings together a distinguished panel of academics to discuss how to navigate the publication process. Given the importance of publications, this panel will go “behind the scenes” of published papers and learn about the publication journey from prolific scholars. This will include how they navigated the peaks and troughs in the review process, how they dealt with reviewer comments, and how they handled paper rejections. Our distinguished panelists have published in a wide range of top management journals including Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, and Administrative Science Quarterly.

    Panelists

    • Nancy Rothbard, Professor of Management at Wharton School of Business
    • Charlotte Cloutier, Associate Professor at HEC Montreal
    • Bobbi Thomason, Assistant Professor at Graziadio Business School
    • Edward Chang, Assistant Professor at Harvard Business School

    Structure of the PDW
Part 1 - Moderated and Audience Q&A: The first part of the PDW will be a Q&A session with our panelists. They will discuss their publication experiences, either in relation to one of their papers or general learnings in their career, answering questions such as how to approach reviewer comments and how to navigate the psychological ups and downs. We will also take questions from the audience.

Part 1 is open to all attendees and does not require any application in advance.

Part 2: Breakout sessions: Pre-selected participants will pitch their project (or idea) to one of the four panelists and have the opportunity to ask questions about their specific project. If you are going through the review process currently or about to embark on one, this is a great opportunity for you to get feedback on the publication process. You can apply to be one of these pre-selected participants. Please see below for details.

    1. Abstract of the paper you want to present (less than 250 words).

    3. Two-three questions you would like addressed about how to approach publishing this paper.
