    Introduction

There has been a growing backlash against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in organizations, U.S. state governments, and educational institutions (see Abrica & Oliver Andrew, 2024.) For example, a variety of organizations, such as Meta, Zoom, Snap, Tesla, DoorDash, and Wayfair, have eliminated DEI programs (Elias, 2023.) Further, 26 states have proposed or passed anti-DEI legislation designed to eradicate DEI initiatives (Adams & Chiwaya, 2024.) Given this growing backlash, the primary goals of this issue are to (a) increasing our understanding of the reasons for this backlash, (b) foster research on these reasons, and (c) develop strategies to overcome the backlash and enhance the diversity and inclusion.
