AOM Paper Submission Incubator for Early-Stage Researchers by the Global Committee, OB Division

When:  Dec 7, 2021 from 14:00 to 16:30 (EET)
Associated with  Organizational Behavior (OB)

How are you progressing with your submission to the annual Academy of Management conference? Peer reviews and constructive feedback from colleagues are key to the development of our academic work, especially in early stages of our careers! For non-native English scholars, peer reviews can also help avoiding some common traps that relate to having to write in a language that is not one’s mother tongue.

In this developmental Incubator, we, Global Committee members of the Organizational Behavior Division will offer you friendly reviews and some support to help you develop your paper toward a successful submission to the AoM conference in Seattle in August 2022. In addition, this is a great opportunity to further develop your global networks!

The Incubator mainly targets doctoral students, post docs and junior / early-stage researchers residing outside North America and who are non-native English speakers. While it is not possible to accommodate all time zones, this Incubator is set at a time that will work for several areas of the world! We will accept up to 30 papers to this Incubator. The papers are discussed in small break out rooms of 3-5 participants, including a facilitator(s) from the Global Committee of the OB Division.

The deadline for the submission to the annual AOM Conference is January 12, 2022.

Interested? How to proceed:

  • Submit your draft paper on any OB topic – as it is - to Anoop Adhur Kutty (anoop.adhurkutty@aalto.fi) by November 28 including clearly stated specific questions/issues that you would like to get feedback on (for example, relating to methodology, use of English language, writing style, structure & content).
  • Attach a brief bio (up to 100 words) to your submission, including your name, contact information, affiliation, current role or position and your research interests.
  • Ideally, the submitted papers are at an advanced stage but not yet complete (for example, min 20 pages, a draft of each section of the paper completed; in empirical papers initial data analyses completed).
  • The submitted papers are expected to confirm with the AoM submission style (Submitting to the Annual Meeting (aom.org)).
  • You do not need to be a member of AoM or the OB Division at the time of this Incubator.

Provided that the above criteria are fulfilled, the slots in the Incubator are allocated on the first-come first-served basis. You will be informed of acceptance and the further process for the Incubator shortly after November 29. The breakout rooms will be formed such that thematically and methodologically similar papers are grouped together to the extent that it is possible to facilitate a fruitful discussion.

You are joining! How to prepare:

  • Formal presentations are NOT needed, but each author introduces his or her paper with a few sentences to kick off the conversation.
  • Within breakout rooms, every participant – including the facilitator/s - is expected to have read all papers and is prepared to share feedback that helps the authors to advance their work towards a submission. That is, you receive feedback on your paper from 3-4 persons; and you share your feedback on two other papers.
  • In addition to the discussion, we encourage each participant to share their main points of feedback in writing (e.g. bullet points to be shared in a chat or in an email). Feedback can be offered in terms of theoretical development, methodology, structure, language and writing style.
