    Hello all,

What makes a good decision-making class curriculum? I'm assigned to teach a new course on decision-making for our upper undergraduate business students in the coming semester. The textbook I inherited has too much focus on decision biases, and not enough on models, tools, processes, group dynamics, etc. I'd greatly appreciate your recommendations of good textbooks, readings, cases, and activities.

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Wei

In case you are interested in decision-making for new ventures, innovation, entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial projects, you can find a Decision Tree to select the right projects in my book "Winning Opportunities, proven tools for converting your projects into success (without a business plan)".

The hardcopy retails for USD 89 on Amazon.com BUT the eBook can be downloaded free of charge at www.winning-opportunities.org (PDF, Kindle, iPad/iPhone, ePub formats).

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Best regards

Hi Wei - I've found the HBS simulation Decision Making in a Crisis to be a great exercise for courses on decision making. The HBS website also has very useful materials to help prep (including a video of taped class to see how the debrief can be run).

I often start with a classic article by Tetlock,

Tetlock, P. E. (1991). An alternative metaphor in the study of judgment and choice: People as politicians. Theory & Psychology1(4), 451-475.

It introduces different metaphors for understanding decision-making process and introduces expected utility approaches, systematic biases in human decision-making and the social and institutional context for decisions.

This sets the ground for a multifaceted approach to considering decisions in their contexts
